A Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) is defined as a for-profit business that is at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by United States citizens belonging to one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans, and Subcontinent-Asian Americans.
This award is presented to a deserving MBE(s) based on the quality, competitiveness, and reliability of products and services rendered. Awards are presented in the following categories of annual sales: under $1 million, $1-10 million, $10-50 million, and over $50 million.
The winner of Supplier of the Year in each class will be announced at the EXPO Rigel Awards and will be submitted to the NMSDC national office to compete for the National Supplier of the Year. All nominees should block the following dates (July 31, 2024) for the videotaping session of the award winners. A specific date and time will be provided on Friday, August 31, 2024.

You have been nominated for the Supplier of the Year Award. Please complete this nominee questionnaire. This information will be used to support the nominator’s input on why you should receive the Supplier of the Year Award. Only questionnaires completed in their entirety will be considered. All qualified nominees will be recognized and the winner announced at the annual EXPO Rigel Awards.
Award Definition

This award is presented to a deserving MBE(s) based on the quality, competitiveness, and reliability of products and services rendered. Awards are presented in the following categories of annual sales: under $1 million, $1-10 million, $10-50 million, and over $50 million.
Supplier Criteria
Nominees will be honored as those who best fulfill the following criteria: - A substantiated history as an established business.
- Growth in number of employees demonstrating an ability to impact the job market (especially minority employees).
- Increase in sales which is an indication of continued growth.
- Improved operations, including quality products and/or innovative services offered; delivery performance, competitiveness, cost savings ideas and servicing.
- Growing list of major customers.
- Evidence of regional council involvement.
- Evidence of civic and community contributions and major accomplishments through the use of the business owner's time and resources within the past three years.
- Improved procurement activities through MBE to MBE purchases.
Winners Will Receive
The four (4) national winners will each receive an award presented during the Awards Banquet at the annual NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange Awards Banquet. The twelve (12) regional winners will be recognized during the annual NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange Awards Banquet.
National and Regional winners will each receive:
- Reserved seating at "Award Winners" tables at the Awards Banquet.
- Complimentary single accommodations for one night at a conference hotel. Incidentals and other expenses are not included.
- The attire for the Awards Banquet is black tie.
Award Definition
The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) recognizes with this award the individuals who have done the most during the past twelve months to provide ongoing, recurring support to MBEs resulting in contracts for multiple MBEs.
Instructions
Instructions: There is no limit on the number of nominations, however each must be submitted separately. Please complete this nomination form explaining why your nominee should receive the Advocate of the Year Award. All nominees should block the 2nd week of September for Photography and Videos.
All qualified nominees will be recognized and the winner announced at the EXPO Rigel Awards.
