Award Definition
A Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) is defined as a for-profit business that is at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by United States citizens belonging to one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans, and Subcontinent-Asian Americans. The winner of Supplier of the Year in each class will be announced at the 46th Anniversary Gala and willbe submitted to the NMSDC national office for the national Supplier of the Year. This award is presented to a deserving MBE(s) based on the quality, competitiveness, and reliability of products and services rendered. Awards are presented in the following categories of annual sales: under $1 million, $1-10 million, $10-50 million, and over $50 million.
Supplier Criteria
Nominees will be honored as those who best fulfill the following criteria:
- A substantiated history as an established business.
- Growth in the number of employees demonstrating an ability to impact the job market (especially minority employees).
- An increase in sales is an indication of continued growth.
- Improved operations, including quality products and/or innovative services offered; delivery performance, competitiveness, cost savings ideas and servicing.
- Growing list of major customers.
- Evidence of regional council involvement.
- Evidence of civic and community contributions and major accomplishments through the use of the business owner's time and resources within the past three years.
- Improved procurement activities through MBE to MBE purchases.
Winners Will Receive
The four (4) national winners will each receive an award presented during the Awards Banquet at the annual NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange Awards Banquet. The twelve (12) regional winners will be recognized during the annual NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange Awards Banquet.
National and Regional winners will each receive:
Reserved seating at "Award Winners" tables at the Awards Banquet.
- Complimentary single accommodations for one night at a conference hotel. Incidentals and other expenses are not included.
- The attire for the Awards Banquet is black tie.

The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) recognizes with this award the individuals who have done the most during the past twelve months to provide ongoing, recurring support to MBEs, resulting in contracts for multiple MBEs.
All nominees should block the following dates (September 8-9, 2025) for the photography and videotaping session of the award winners.

Award Definition
The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) recognizes with this award the Corporate Member who has evidenced the most commitment to minority business development during the past year. We are requesting MBEs to nominate companies that have demonstrated the following:
- Commitment to MBE development
- Involvement in HMSDC
- Specific assistance provided to MBEs
- Encouraging primes to support minority business development
- Increased direct and indirect spending with MBEs
- An increased number of MBEs nominees are doing business with
- Changed internal processes that resulted in contracts being awarded to MBEs
- Demonstrated executive involvement

You have been nominated for the Prime Supplier of the Year Award. Please complete this nominee questionnaire. This information will be used to support the nominator’s input on why you should receive the Prime Supplier of the Year Award. Only questionnaires completed in their entirety will be considered. All qualified nominees will be recognized and the winner announced at the EXPO Rigel Awards. All nominees should block the following dates (September 6 - 9, 2023) for the videotaping session of the award winners. A specific date and time will be provided on September 2, 2023.
Award Definition
A growing number of major corporations and government agencies are asking their primary suppliers to become involved in minority business development efforts. Primary suppliers are asked to make a conscious effort to seek out and give serious consideration to minority-owned business enterprises (MBEs), and to report the results of those efforts through specific action taken to develop and grow their supplier diversity program.
The nominee for the Prime Supplier of the Year Award shall be an HMSDC member prime supplier or first-tier minority-owned business enterprise that has participated in overall second-tier efforts at some level for more than three years. The nominee should have reported annual spending with MBEs that total greater than $2 million and demonstrate significant growth in their second-tier efforts through capturing and reporting second-tier targets, using a year-on-year comparison.
All nominees should block the following dates (September 8-9, 2025) for the photography and videotaping session of the award winners.
Award Overview
Your company has been nominated for the Strategic Teaming Award presented by the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC). Strategic Teaming refers to a partnering or subcontracting arrangement between a prime supplier and one or more Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) or between two or more MBEs. Judging will be based on commitment, innovations, and expenditures with MBEs. This award will be presented during the EXPO Rigel Awards.
