Emerging 10 Awards is an annual event recognizing minority business enterprises (MBEs) emerging in their field of business.  To be considered for an Emerging Ten (E-10) Award presented by the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) and the Houston Business Journal. Please review this entire document. Do not overlook the request to include a brief personal history.  If selected as a winner, your biography, photo, and answers to the questions will be used to create your profile shared at the awards ceremony and in the Houston Business Journal and Minority Business News Texas publications.


This prestigious award recognizes area minority-owned enterprises that have emerged successful after having faced challenges, overcome hurdles, and many times did so under difficult circumstances. Companies receiving this award will be known for (1) setting innovative trends, (2) excelling in customer service, (3) embracing the current marketplace, and (4) contributing to the community's economic and civic base. The E-10 Awards are intended to:
 

  • Recognize minority businesses making significant contributions to their industry and community;
  • Heighten awareness of the expanding role minority businesses play in Houston's business marketplace; and
  • Communicate successful business strategies that will encourage other companies to strive for excellence in their industry.


JUDGING CRITERIA
Judging criteria include: exceptional service, overall industry enhancement, community involvement, innovative performance, and doing business with other MBEs.


WINNER WILL RECEIVE

  • Recognition in the Houston Business Journal and Minority Business News Texas
  • An original art piece designed by world-renowned artist, Tony Sherman
  • Participate in a photo and video shoot for all winners (requirement)
  • Purchase a table for company guests (requirement)
  • Featured on HMSDC Website, Newsletter, and Social Media Outlets

A Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) is defined as a for-profit business that is at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by United States citizens belonging to one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans, and Subcontinent-Asian Americans.

This award is presented to a deserving MBE(s) based on the quality, competitiveness, and reliability of products and services rendered. Awards are presented in the following categories of annual sales: under $1 million, $1-10 million, $10-50 million, and over $50 million.

The winner of Supplier of the Year in each class will be announced at the EXPO Rigel Awards and will be submitted to the NMSDC national office to compete for the National Supplier of the Year.  All nominees should block the following dates (July 31, 2024) for the videotaping session of the award winners.  A specific date and time will be provided on Friday, August 31, 2024.

    You have been nominated for the Supplier of the Year Award. Please complete this nominee questionnaire. This information will be used to support the nominator’s input on why you should receive the Supplier of the Year Award. Only questionnaires completed in their entirety will be considered. All qualified nominees will be recognized and the winner announced at the annual EXPO Rigel Awards.


    Award Definition
    A Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) is defined as a for-profit business that is at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by United States citizens belonging to one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans, and Subcontinent-Asian Americans. The winner of Supplier of the Year in each class will be announced at the 46th Anniversary Gala and be submitted to the NMSDC national office for national Supplier of the Year. This award is presented to a deserving MBE(s) based on the quality, competitiveness, and reliability of products and services rendered. Awards are presented in the following categories of annual sales: under $1 million, $1-10 million, $10-50 million, and over $50 million.


    Supplier Criteria
    Nominees will be honored as those who best fulfill the following criteria:
  • A substantiated history as an established business.
  • Growth in number of employees demonstrating an ability to impact the job market (especially minority employees).
  • Increase in sales which is an indication of continued growth.
  • Improved operations, including quality products and/or innovative services offered; delivery performance, competitiveness, cost savings ideas and servicing.
  • Growing list of major customers.
  • Evidence of regional council involvement.
  • Evidence of civic and community contributions and major accomplishments through the use of the business owner's time and resources within the past three years.
  • Improved procurement activities through MBE to MBE purchases.



Winners Will Receive
The four (4) national winners will each receive an award presented during the Awards Banquet at the annual NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange Awards Banquet. The twelve (12) regional winners will be recognized during the annual NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange Awards Banquet.

National and Regional winners will each receive:

  • Reserved seating at "Award Winners" tables at the Awards Banquet.
  • Complimentary single accommodations for one night at a conference hotel. Incidentals and other expenses are not included.
  • The attire for the Awards Banquet is black tie.


Award Definition
The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) recognizes with this award the individuals who have done the most during the past twelve months to provide ongoing, recurring support to MBEs resulting in contracts for multiple MBEs.

Instructions
Instructions: There is no limit on the number of nominations, however each must be submitted separately. Please complete this nomination form explaining why your nominee should receive the Advocate of the Year Award. All nominees should block the 2nd week of September for Photography and Videos.


All qualified nominees will be recognized and the winner announced at the EXPO Rigel Awards.

Houston Minority Supplier Development Council
